IBTA Week Concert at St Mary's Cathedral
The IBTA Week Concert at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh was a great success. The Amadeus Duo, left, which consists of Alina Bzhezhinska and Margaret Preston on Concert Harp and Flute opened the concert with forty minutes of predominantly classical music, from Debussy to a contemporary piece by Richard Ingham. In the beautiful setting, the comination of the two instruments was really magical. After a short interval, Fiona Hyslop gave a simply stunning performance of the Scottish Clarsach Solo, Tir Nan Og (Land of the Ever Young), after which she was joined by Miranda Barty-Taylor who sang a traditional version of Ae Fond Kiss, the famous Burns ballad. Finally Chloé and Abigail Young on Clarsach and Fiddle played both individually and together, delighting the audience with their musical prowess and their energy.
The concert was part of the International Brain Tumour Awareness Week, organised by IBTA (www.theibta.org) which was noted in the opening speech by Lynne Barty, member of Brain Tumour Action. After welcoming the audience, she spoke eloquently of the desperate need for more research into brain tumours, especially in the UK, but also worldwide, and specifically the need for more clinical trial funding.
BTA would like to thank all those who came along in support, the Cathedral, for letting us use such a beautiful venue, and finally all the performers who gave us all such pleasure.
